Slow food at Funky Moustache (Restaurant is permanently closed)

Note that this restaurant is permanently closed!

The restaurant California Republic disappeared almost as fast as the original California Republic and it has now been taken over by Funky Moustache. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to check out the lunch option. The restaurant/café has a lovely “backyard” that is perfect to use on a nice summer day – hopefully there will be many of these so that people can enjoy food and drinks from the restaurant there.

We ordered some coffee from the owner Sunny and a beetroot falafel salad to share. On the menu you will also find vegan/vegetarian options, tapas, burger, soup but also breakfast options which is not that common in Stavanger. We got the coffee fast and it was an excellent and strong coffee. The restaurant was more or less empty on this Saturday afternoon and I think we were the only ones there to start with but after we ordered, there were two/three other tables that were occupied by other guests.

The beetroot falafel salad took some time to make it seemed like as we waited about 45 minutes before it was served. The salad was good with warm falafel balls, red pesto sprinkled over and nuts. We will probably try Funky Moustache again and hopefully the service will be faster the next time. Note that you can also use Wolt to order from Funky Moustache!

I’m not quite sure I understand what kind of place Funky Moustache is. It opens at about 11 and serves breakfast, brunch and lunch. It stays open until midnight (1.30 AM in the weekends) but I’m not sure I understand what the focus is. Is it a restaurant or a café? Will there be a focus on food in the evenings or will it be just a place to hang out and drink cocktails or smoothies?

Have you been to Funky Moustache? What is your experience?
